“Sometimes being a brother is even better than being a superhero” ~ Marc Brown

I’ve written about it before. Her bond with each of her brothers is unique, strong and unwavering. Just like their love for her. Liam is her protector. Her comfort. Her safe place to land. You can see it in her eyes. She knows he is watching her. She knows he would do anything and drop anything to be there with her and keep her safe. Her happiness and her love for him are like food for his soul. She is the baby sister he always wanted. He was born to be the biggest brother.

With him by her side she is capable of anything. She can slay dragons, ride a magic carpet down a rainbow, climb the highest building in the world, swing through a jungle with monkeys, swim through a pool full of jelly and race fan-dangled speed machines. And she knows, without a doubt, if she should fall, if her jet-pack should fail, he will be there to catch her. Together they are laughter and cheekiness. One look from him and she can’t help but giggle. She knows there is fun to be had, mischief and trouble to create, and she knows her big brother will always be at her side, letting her discover and create, and feeding her sense of adventure, but he holds the reigns, and he will always, always pull back just that little bit to keep her safe.

Sometimes, all I can do is sit and wonder how I got so lucky. It amazes me every day, that these three little people are mine. I created them (with a bit of help). They are part of me, but so very much their own selves at the same time. To have three beautiful, healthy, loving children really is a blessing beyond measure, and I am thankful for them always. I just hope I can be the mummy they deserve. x

Following on from the Missy Melly sneak peek, we have the other side of Shan’s business – Melly Boys, modelled by 2 year old Judd, with my Amelia showing off one of the gorgeous Missy Melly Ruffle Tops. I adore those argyle shorts shown first. They’re a definite on my shopping list for Ethan!

Balancing life with a business, three kids, homework, reading, dinner, baths, teeth-brushing, bedtime routines, temper tantrums, play fights and sibling rivalry, makes for a pretty busy life. Sometimes it can get overwhelming. I worry that we are always on the go, go, go. That we always seem to be living life at a fast pace. That we don’t take enough time to stop, or even slow down, and see what is right before us. What is surrounding us. That I will look back and wonder where the days went. That my babies will think I did not give them enough attention (mother guilt is wonderful isn’t it!) And then there are moments like this. Moments, in the middle of all the chaos when I am jerked into reality by a sight that literally makes my heart feel like it may just burst. There, amidst the chaos of putting a toddler to bed what seems like 15 times in a row, tidying up and preparing for the onslaught of tomorrow, trying to calm chatterbox children and convince everyone it really is bed time, I see this. And my heart could burst. In the midst of the chaos, he found some solitude. A quiet place, in his own little world, where he can wonder at his books and let his imagination run free.  Baby boy, I have no idea how you got to be six already. I love this age, where you are becoming so independent, but at the same time still my little boy. You remind me to stop. To not let the days just pass on by. To cherish every day with all of the blessings I have. Love you to the moon and back sweet boy xx.

I was a little excited to find Shan’s email in my inbox this morning, telling me my photos were on the Kid Independent site. I’m so proud of the girls, their great ideas and hard work have resulted in such a fantastic collaboration between their individual businesses,  Missy Melly, Winnie&Clem and Appleberry Kids.Commercial childrens wear and fashion photography mornington peninsula melbourne

A couple of family photos to celebrate Alana’s six months. (She was exactly six months the day of their session too – happy half birthday princess! x)family portraits, mornington peninsula melbourne

I first met Alana when she was 3 weeks old, and it’s hard to believe she’s already 6 months old! What an adorable age six months is. Alana just recently celebrated her baptism, so her mummy and daddy wanted some photos of her in her special gown. Easily one of the most beautiful baptism gowns I have seen. The attention to detail is amazing. Such a beautiful heirloom to have in the family.

Alana is one very lucky little girl, blessed with beautiful parents and surrounded by loving friends and family who all cherish her. Tanja and Adam, thank you for bringing Alana back to see me, it was so lovely to catch up with you all again. Enjoy your sneak peek, I will have your full gallery ready for you very soon.

Prints on walls. They make me happy. It’s why I do what I do. To be able to capture those tiny details of a newborn, the chubby legs and happy smiles of a baby, or the mischievous giggles of a child, turn them into art and hang it where I will look at it every day. I often find myself stopped in my hallway, or in any other room in my house, staring at photos and remembering, and being thankful. When morning comes all too early, after a terrible night with toddlers or sick children I wake up and the first thing I see are photos of my babes. It always puts me in a happy, grateful mood. When friends and family come into our house they gravitate to the photo walls. The images in my home are not only for me to enjoy, they don’t only make me happy. My children adore seeing photos of themselves, and take such pride in their images being on the walls. They love it when friends and family look and comment. Yes, photos on walls make me happy. They create a beautiful atmosphere in my home. They make it our home.

As for displaying prints, I love to hang them in collections. I love clean lines, and I love simplicity. Here’s the sample I have in my studio, from Sienna’s session earlier this year. The smaller prints are 8×12″ and the larger are 12×18″ and all beautifully custom framed.

I have adored Missy Melly’s beautiful, clothes since she first opened her doors. Shantell has great taste and an eye for detail. Every piece is so stylish, and the fabric choices are just divine. But if  this gorgeous Summer range was not enough to send me into a spin,  the collaboration with Appleberry Kids for their gorgeous bags, necklaces and bracelets, and  Winnie&Clem for their stunning hats certainly is. I know what my little poppet will be getting around in this Summer.

Allow me to introduce Missy Melly’s top models, Shantell’s beautiful twin daughters Madison and Elly (yes, that’s where the name comes from). Such little troopers. Shooting a summer range, on Melbourne’s beaches in August, is not for the weak! The weather in the lead up was terrible. Typical Melbourne August weather. Cold, wet and windy. It was still raining as we drove to the beach hopeful that we could give it our best. But we were blessed with sunshine the moment we stepped onto the sand. The girls had a great time playing, even venturing into the icy water at times. They were so patient through multiple clothing changes, and so helpful. Just as we were finishing up the clouds started to roll in again. The girls rugged up nice and warm and headed off for a well deserved hot chocolate.

Thank you Shantell, Maddy, Elly and Amanda. It was a pleasure to work with you all. x
